T.J. has always called Lake County home, having been born in Waukegan and raised in the Village of Gurnee, and his roots in Lake County run even deeper, with his late grandparents having raised his father and his 11 siblings in the City of North Chicago. T.J. is a 2011 graduate of Warren Township High School, where he graduated near the top of his class, earned a total of six varsity letters in football and wrestling, and as a senior was honored as one of the top wrestlers in Illinois. T.J. began his undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri where he earned a place on the Big 12 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll as a member of the Tigers’ Big 12 Championship wrestling team. After a year in Missouri, T.J. moved on to complete his undergraduate studies at Lindenwood University in Belleville, Illinois where, in 2015, he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. During his time at Lindenwood, T.J. was a national qualifier for the wrestling team, he led his team to victory in the university-wide mock trial competition, and he was a proud member of the National Criminal Justice Honor Society.
In May of 2018, T.J. received his Juris Doctor from the Southern Illinois University School of Law 2018, where he had served as Vice President of the Black Law Students Association (“BLSA”), was a member of the Moot Court board, and received the “CALI Excellence for the Future Award” for achieving the highest grade in his Labor Law class. Prior to joining our team at JTLG, T.J. spent about a year as an associate attorney at a large law firm in downtown Chicago defending worker’s compensation claims on behalf of major corporations. Unfulfilled with the work of defending major corporations, T.J. decided to make the transition back to Lake County so that he would be able to use his legal expertise to assist the citizens of his home community.
T.J. joined the JTLG team as an Associate Attorney in August of 2019. His drive to use his legal education and experience to assist others is exemplified by his fervent advocation on behalf of his clients. T.J.’s current areas of practice include: criminal law (including traffic tickets), real estate transactions, consumer protection, and estate planning. He is a member of the Lake County Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association, and he spends his free time as a volunteer coach at Toss Em Up Wrestling Academy in Waukegan, Illinois, which has been recognized as one of the top youth wrestling programs in the country.
